One of the biggest themes that was expected for 2013 in the tech world was home automation and technology integration. Belkin has decided to target this new wonderful market and took the first steps with the Belkin WeMo Light Switch. How many times have you been 10 minutes away from home going out for the night and your wife suddenly yells out, “I left the straightener on!! Turn around and go get back!”. Hopefully it isn’t often but when it does happen, it can be really frustrating (especially when she already made you 10 minutes late doing her hair in the first place).
Belkin WeMo has tried to save us all this headache and make sure we are all a bit safer being able to shut off any outlets that are powered by the WeMo Light Switch. That moment you have when sitting down at work and suddenly freaking out because you don’t know if something was left plugged in, you can solve the problem by just pulling out your phone. WeMo has a great app that is simple to use and can be done from just about anywhere. It allows you to shut off the outlet at any point saving you worry, headaches, and even possible home fires if curlers and straighteners are left on by your significant other (or you, we aren’t judging).
Belkin has continued to push forward into home automation and had a few exciting announcements at CES 2013 just this week. They will also have light switches that can be controlled via your smart phone which should save money and also from having to run downstairs after you are comfortably in bed and realize the light was left on. They have also created a motion sensor that will give you a peace of mind when you are both at home or away from home knowing just who is/isn’t making their way into the house. As an apartment owner, this should be a very appealing idea since so many people have access to your apartment. They have also done a baby monitor which allows integration with smart phones as well which can parenthood a little bit easier. Check out the WeMo Light Switch and some of the other great home automation products from Belkin when you get a chance.
