If you are a regular reader of Gadgets 4 Guys, you probably know that we hate the traditional security systems that are out there. We hate that the monthly fees are astronomically high. We hate that the false alarms which seem to go off due to user malfunction or the system losing its virtual mind cost people extra money on top of what they pay every month. We hate that every little extra additional item we wish to track costs extra money. Now that all of the security systems have caught on to the fact that they can claim they can turn your house into a “smart home” they are charging an arm and a leg to do so. You want carbon monoxide detection? That’s extra. You want to control your thermostat? That’s extra. What can we do to get an answer to this?
Cue a KickStarter campaign that just got done and received over 5x their $200,000 funding goal which shows we are not alone in our feelings about security. Blink is run off of a battery and requires no hard wiring so it can be placed wherever. Blink is set off by motion detection and when it senses that movement, it immediately begins to record while sending your phone a text message alert that motion was detected. If you want to see what set the motion detection off, you can access the Blink app to get live feed from the video which should allow you to determine whether or not you want to call the police or not. The price is super cheap at $49 and there are zero monthly fees as Blink runs through your wifi and allows you to decide whether or not the authorities should be alerted. It is also nice because it gives you video/photo evidence of whatever or whomever set the alarm off. It is also good if you are trying to catch your teenager that is sneaking out of the house every weekend and give you the evidence needed to prove it.
