There are a lucky few of us that have seen one of the obnoxious Google cars driving around on the road taking 360 degree pictures of streets and the neighborhoods that surround them. The reason we say lucky is because you hopefully took advantage of the opportunity to become a part of Google Maps history and do something funny that makes it onto their site. We’ve seen people dress up in hilarious outfits or people getting caught taking a leak on the side of the road which quickly goes viral and you become a part Google Maps Hall of Fame.
The frustrating thing about Google Maps and a lot of the house and apartment websites out there is seeing the really cool 360 degree camera functionality that the normal person doesn’t have access to. Thanks to a cool new KickStarter campaign, we will all soon have access to a 360 degree camera called Bublcam. The video on their website has done a great job of showing the different applications you can use bublcam for. If you are trying to have a video conference, this should allow you to see everybody in a room and not have to rely on only one angle. For all of the hardcore sports nuts out there (we don’t do anything physical so you’ll just have to tell us about this one) you can also attach bublcam like any other GoPro cam but capture every aspect from the 360 degree perspective. The part we liked a lot was being able to truly share in important moments with those that might be outside of your area. We have friends that are out of the state of Kansas but could actually have them “sitting” with us to watch the game. Here is their KickStarter video:
We were able to speak with one of the members of their team and judging by the success of this KickStarter campaign, they’re very excited about the future of bublcam. If we see news journalists begin to bring these into the field with them, we might see a completely new form of journalism begin. Click here to check out the KickStarter campaign.
