Beats By Dre… It is your time to officially take the backseat. Don’t get us wrong, their headphones are great but they have been skating by on Dre’s name for quite some time. All of these different electronic companies have been getting into a terrible habit which is to pick a rapper or famous rock band and have them sponsor some “premium” headphones. Did you know that Snooki has her own headphones? Why would anybody in their right mind have that be the tipping point for shelling out a lot of money for headphones? We can understand tanning lotion but have no idea where headphones came into play.
So back to our original statement: we got lucky enough to try out a new pair of headphones from a company many already know (and the rest will hear about shortly) called Creative. They have a strong product focus on anything music which should tell you they actually know what they’re doing. They don’t try to go out and have some celebrity that has nothing to do with music come out and tell you their headphones are awesome because they speak for themselves. Gadgets 4 Guys was able to try out a member of the Evo headsets called the Creative Sound Blaster EVO Zx. Below is our full review broken out into different key evaluation sets.
Sound Blaster EVO Zx Features
The EVO Zx has a lot of features but the first and most important one is the Bluetooth and NFC capability. What we are trying to say is that there aren’t any wires that need to be connected to your phone or mp3 player which is awesome for those on the move. The Sound Blasters also have a 40mm audio driver which allows the headphones to tap into the full range of the audio spectrum. One of the things that we were concerned about with the EVO Zx’s was a lack in quality over Bluetooth but were pleasantly surprised as we cranked up Pearl Jam. The audio came through great. Another important aspect of any premium headphones are the ability to shut out external noise. You don’t want the loud breathing of Agnes in accounting to ruin the awesome Five Finger Death Punch drum solo you’re getting ready to hear.
After trying these bad boys out all day, we quickly learned that they had some of the best quality we have heard from premium headphones. Our next immediate question was what else can you do? Creative did an excellent job in answering that question by adding features to the headphones that work beautifully with just about any smartphone. You can answer calls or even use the EVO Zx’s as a VoIP when you connect them to a PC or a Mac. G4G was also happy to see that Creative actually designed an app to go along with the headset to give you better control over your music and sound quality coming through the headphones. The app was really versatile and actually made some serious differences in the tweaks we made to the audio.
We want to preface that as we provide some of the specs below, we might not know what every bit of this means. What we do know is that we tried them out ourselves and were very impressed with the sound quality and features crammed into the Sound Blaster EVO Zx’s.
