Home security is a tough thing to figure out. We all want to feel safe and secure in our homes but we also want to make that those inside the home can’t hurt themselves. You have a variety of options to choose from that include the overpriced home security systems that you typically pay an arm and a leg for each month (and that’s if your dog doesn’t set off a false alarm too many times and you get charged by the police department). Front door deadbolts and locks haven’t changed much until the past two years where we saw a ton of smart locks come into the market. There wasn’t much difference between each one and the weird thing was that they all still relied on the old school deadbolt technology to keep the door secure. That is all good and well but at G4G, we demand a stronger sense of security so we don’t have to go John Wayne on any intruders or worry about dated security tactics jeopardizing family.
KickStarter seems to be the place for new spins on dated technology and that has now carried over to how we look at the traditional lock. The deadbolt is and has been a solid way of keeping the door securely shut but there has to be a better way. Cue Haven, which is a lock that is anchored to your floor and is activated via a phone app that will either raise or lower the barrier. You simply install Haven at the base of a door and pair it with the app to begin to operate it. Once you have done that, you can operate Haven from anywhere and feel more secure as this lock shows it standing up to a bit more of a beating than a lot of the deadbolts out there. They also have some stretch goals that will add things on like direct AC power, a built-in alarm if the lock is breached when activated, and even wearable gesture control.
