Homes are being transformed. It used to be that we would see things like TV’s dropping out of the ceiling and it was Robin Leach telling us that this was caviar and dreams or something along those lines. We couldn’t have imagined in the 90’s that homes would become smart and controlled from our Zach Morris brick phone because the technology just wasn’t there. Instead, we all thought that having intercoms built into the walls so we could communicate from the upper level of a home with the people in the basement. That was the breaking edge of home technology and they were very sad times. Fast forward to now and we have the capability to make our entire homes smart. Thermostats that will monitor the energy usage and tone it up and tone it down when it can save you the most money. There are smart fridges that can now identify when you have had produce or eggs go bad (and even order you more groceries via a wifi connection).
The technology in our homes has increased but a company called ilumi has taken our lighting to the next level. They have created a smart bulb that will actually operate via Bluetooth and allow you multiple options in how you control lighting. The owners and creators who began this endeavor back in 2010 as MBA classmates just appeared on Shark Tank and had Mark Cuban invest in their company at 25%. So we know that they are primed to blow up even with all of the other competition that is showing up with their smart bulbs. A lot of the other competition requires you to purchase a bridge or other components to make the smart bulbs work (or limits you to a certain amount of bulbs) where ilumi does not. Ilumi also allows you to change the bulb color in a variety of ways and even allows you to make the lights flash on and off. While we see the practical industrial applications (nightclubs) we also like the home application and being able to control all of your lighting directly from your phone.
