Light by Moore’s Cloud started off as an attempted KickStarter campaign (you can tell we keep a close eye on that website). The idea was to create an open source programmable LED cube that could have all kinds of different effects. You could program it to be one color or create a different looks to it by some simple programming changes. For those that weren’t expert programmers, the Moore’s Light came with some pre-loaded options that allowed several different changes and looks to the cube. Unfortunately, the KickStarter campaign fell short of it’s goal.
Did Moore’s Cloud run to the hills with their tail between their legs? OF COURSE THEY DIDN’T. They said “screw KickStarter” and began to raise money on their website to help fund this awesome LED gadget. They are roughly a sixth of the way there and could benefit from a few more users investing into their great gadget and their awesome open source idea. Gadgets 4 Guys is a strong supporter of anything that is open source but an even bigger fan when it is combined with a gadget. The Light by Moore’s Cloud is also synced with your wifi signal which allows you to control it from an easily loaded iPhone or Ipad app. The gadget has 52 LED lights within it that have over 1.5 million variations of colors you can use. Pretty impressive.
It will be very interesting to see how the company is able to raise the funds for their goal and what people will do with these bad boys when they begin to ship in July 2013. We are interested to see what some good college programmers might be able to do with these and hope that they become a norm for every nightclub across the US. You can see more of what this gadget can do in the promo video below.
