A few of the staff members at Gadgets 4 Guys recently got a Pebble Smartwatch. Those that have one have quickly fallen in love with it and enjoy being able to check out notifications with ease by simply glancing at their wrist. The attractiveness of Pebble is it’s simplicity but there are others out there that think a smartwatch requires more functionality to be considered “smart”.
Neptune Pine is a smartwatch that recently completed it’s KickStarter campaign. When we say that they completed it, they destroyed it. They had a goal of $100,000 and ended just over $800k which means a lot of people agree with Neptune Pine that a smartwatch needs more functionality. They gave Neptune Pine the ability to make phone calls, make posts and read other posts on social media websites, and browse the web. You have the ability to choose what your preference is on how to be notified which is also nice (vibrate or ring). The actual watch face of the Neptune Pine detaches from the wristband which makes it very easy to handle games and browsing the internet. The other nice thing is they have installed a decent camera on it which allows you to still take those pictures that happen in an instant. You’re also able to utilize GPS applications and also use it as a fitness tracker. The biggest effort that Neptune Pine seemed to try and accomplish was turn the smartwatch from a bluetooth accessory with limited capabilities into a smartphone on your wrist. G4G believes that the best idea that Neptune had was to make it compatible with all of the other preexisting applications that are out there. That means they won’t have to mess with trying to get people to sign up and develop apps for their device as we have seen that fail many a times. While the Neptune Pine appears to be a little larger on the wrist than what we would prefer but we can’t argue the demand based off of their KickStarter campaign.
