We are a huge fan of NFC. While we love to watch Tony Romo choke every year and not make it to the NFC championship every year (and Jerry Jones promise the world next year) that is not the NFC we are talking about. The NFC we are talking about stands for Near Field Communication and is an awesome bit of technology that every cell phone maker should get on board with *cough* APPLE *cough*. The idea is that technology interacts with each other by simply being in the same vicinity. You can charge phones and have a variety of other options available if the NFC gadgets are open source.
There has been a huge amount of discussions on wearable technology and everybody is hung up on the watches. Why not take it to the next level though and turn what every married man gets (has) to wear everyday in the ring and turn it into an NFC gadget? Somebody out there agreed with Gadgets 4 Guys and created the NFC Ring. There are a variety of apps that are out there which will interact with the NFC Ring but there are already some different ways to use it. There are some examples out there which include: 1) using the NFC ring to interact with your phone and automatically unlock the phone (nobody has time to swipe) 2) Using it to unlock your door with compatible door knobs and 3) easily transfer information back and forth. The limits stretch a long way and it will be interesting to see what people do with the NFC Ring since it is open source. For those Gadgets 4 Guys readers out there that are smart enough to actually program one of these bad boys, we would love to hear the ideas you have in how it could be used. We know there aren’t many of you (smart G4G readers) but still thought we would throw that out there. These things have already tripled their KickStarter goal but we aren’t sure on whether they ship to the US or not. Now if Apple would buck up and get on the NFC train we would be a lot happier.
