Picture John Cusack standing outside of a house. Instead of him holding a boom box from Better Off Dead, he holds a smart phone above his head that are hooked up to speakers and we begin to hear Peter Gabriel blare across the speakers. It is sad to say that this will likely be the scene if they ever decides to screw this movie up by remaking it due to a lack of creativity in Hollywood. This has become real life with Sharetapes, the mix tape that can be created and triggered via a smartphone.
Sharetapes come in packs of 5 blank “tapes” and can be triggered by a QR code or NFC (Near Field Communications). So the steps to making Sharetapes express your love to the next girlfriend you stumble upon, it is actually pretty simple. Buy the Sharetapes, make a playlist in Youtube, Spotify, and then give your Sharetape to that one lucky person. They will then scan the tape with their QR code reader and be prompted to listen to the best of Sugar Ray (we know that is what you listen to).
There are a couple of catches with Sharetapes but definitely not a deal breaker since these bad boys only cost around $6. One catch that you need to know is the recipient of the Sharetape will need to have a Spotify account if you make the playlist using that app. The other catch which is embarrassing we have to point out but if you give one of these to your Mom that is still utilizing her awesome Nokia flip phone, she likely won’t be able to use it. The recipient needs to have a phone with a QR code reader or NFC capable which cancels out a large majority of the old folks over 70.
While it seems kind of small and silly the idea of Sharetapes is great. If you are trying to do something romantic for your girlfriend, create a romantic Backstreet Boys playlist on Valentine’s Day. She will love it.
