We see a wide variety of creative cases come through our cue of different gadgets to check out. They range from the Go Go Gadget type of case to the ultra hard duty waterproof ones that all have their place with their respective users. There will be a moment though where we will all have to take 10 minutes and explain to our kids what a physical Qwerty keyboard was much like the idea of a flip phone. The thing that they will never know is the satisfaction of being able to actually “feel” the keys being pressed and being much more accurate in the messages you were typing. Sleekeys has launched a KickStarter campaign to bring this same satisfaction to the more popular smart phones we see on the market today.
Sleekeys is a smart phone case that actually has a very thin (thick as a penny or two) Qwerty keyboard built into the case that simply slides out and over the touch screen. We can get into the science of how this keyboard doesn’t actually require you to plug it into the phone and drain your battery but instead, we will just call it magic. The keyboard also doesn’t require Bluetooth connectivity to work which further makes it the best Qwerty board from a battery usage standpoint. Sleekeys actually does an excellent job of being pretty hidden within the case itself and with a quick motion of the wrist (which we think is worth getting just for that factor) you have the board to pull across the phone and begin typing. Will you need it for every little message you type? Absolutely not. But if you are an actual grown up writing grown up business emails, we can guess that you have wished more than once for a more accurate way to type.
We love being able to support any crowdfunding option that has an ability to make a big splash in the technology world. We were also able to snag an interview with a member of the Sleekeys team and got some more insight to the company and gadget. Check it out below. Click here for image source and where to purchase.
Gadgets 4 Guys managed to snag an interview with a member of the Sleekeys team and managed to give us more insight into their product and the KickStarter process. Enjoy!
Can you tell us your name, position, and how you were a part of the Sleekeys team: My name is David Berger and I am the inventor of SleeKeys and the founder and creative force behind SleekTech.
What initially brought the idea for creating this Qwerty board for touch phones? About 2 years ago it became clear that blackberry is losing the smartphone war. Wherever I looked I saw the same explanation: people are just not ready to give up half their screen for a physical keyboard. I thought there must be a way to get a physical keyboard on a touch screen and have both worlds. It was much harder than expected, but we found a way!
In an era where phones seem to be going away from Qwerty physical boards, why do you think Sleekeys is something people will love? We believe that people want a physical keyboard to type faster and with less mistakes, (just look at any text message or email from a smartphone..) but they are just not ready to give up half the screen. There are some bluetooth keyboards, but they are bulky, need to be paired, charged (usually with a different charger) and add weight. In short, they are just too big of a headache. With SleeKeys you get a full screen with no keyboard in sight. The keyboard is so thin and compactly folded in the case that you almost won’t notice it. And as soon as you want it, all it takes is 1 flip and its out! When you are done using it, you just flip it back in a split second. So SleeKeys gives you a sleek case with NO keyboard until you actually want to use it!
You currently have a KickStarter campaign in progress. What was the process of getting approved by KickStarter and how you have been marketing the campaign so far? Getting onto Kickstarter wasn’t nearly as simple as we imagined. They have very strict standards in place and we had to redo our project page countless times. It took a month of back and forth with a lot of changes and edits on our parts until they approved us to launch. We had to remove all of our original photos and edit our project video. Therefore, we feel, the page doesn’t really portray the product as it is. Sleek, beautiful and very refined. Nonetheless, we’re glad we stuck it out. After all Kickstarter is the world’s largest crowd funding platform and the results are truly amazing!
Any other future plans or secrets you might be able to share with Gadgets 4 Guys? At SleekTech, we’re always brewing new ideas to enhance the Smartphone experience. At the present time, we are working on refining two other product concepts. Since they’re still in the designing process we’re not publicizing them yet but you could be sure you’ll be hearing from us real soon!
