As I was lacing up my shoes to go for a run last week, it occurred to me that almost all of my jogging/athletic shirts were old ratty college shirts that my wife has been trying to make “disappear” for several years. A couple of reasons that this actually caused me concern:
There’s more reasons but these were enough to convince us that maybe some new workout shirts weren’t a bad idea. So imagine how excited we were when Tasc Performance offered to send us a free demo of their Elevation LS T long sleeve shirt! We did some proper field testing and really fell in love with the product.
This is a big one. Anybody that has made the mistake of getting a crappy imitation shirt off of Amazon for super cheap quickly realizes that the fabric can be itchy and actually smell really bad (before the workout even begins). Tasc has done an awesome job of creating their own custom fabric called MOSOmerino which aims to help regulate the temperature of your body while also keeping sweat to a minimum which it did an excellent job of.
We took this out for a run on one of those rare hot fall days in Kansas City and also on one of those cold fall mornings that many joggers love to run in. The shirt worked for both. The shirt lets in the right amount of wind while also keeping the right amount of heat within the shirt too. The fabric was really fine but after a couple of washes, you could tell it was durable too. We really liked that the end of the sleeve didn’t stretch if we pulled it up to our forearms which we’ve seen as a huge challenge with many workout shirts we’ve tried in the past.
The Fit of the Shirt
As we mentioned before, our rockin’ dad body can limit the choices we have in workout apparel these days. Get something too loose and it becomes a hassle to work out in. Get something too tight and your muffin top makes everybody lifting around you want to puke. We don’t belong in those Under Armor ads with guys that have zero body fat but definitely don’t look like we should be trying out for America’s Biggest Loser. Tasc has created a shirt that works for multiple body types with the semi-flexible material and cut of the shirt.
The actual MOSOmerino material is 48% viscose from bamboo, 47% merino wool, and 5% lycra. We’re not even sure what half of those materials are but we know that this was one of the most comfortable fitting workout shirts we’ve tried on. The arms were just the right amount of hug while the body was just loose enough to not highlight our those extra pounds we’ve gained from excessive Halloween candy binge eating. We also loved that the extra large (my normal clothing size) actually fit like an extra large.
The Bottom Line
The only thing that we see people struggling with is the price of the shirt itself. We understand that $98 might sound high but if you’re getting a durable shirt that can actually help keep your temperature regulated during workouts, it might be worth it. I expect that we’re going to continue to see the Tasc Performance brand grow in popularity in the coming months. So help your dad out this holiday shopping season and get him out of that Tri Delta Upsilon fraternity shirt that looks more like a crop top these days and get him into an Elevation LS T.
